How to convert a decimal to a fraction
0.625 = 625/1,000 = 5/8
The digits after the decimal point tell you the starting denominator. Three digits means thousandths, so 0.625 becomes 625/1,000 before it is simplified.

How to convert a percent to a fraction
62.5% = 62.5/100 = 625/1,000 = 5/8
Percent means “per 100.” Write the value over 100, remove the decimal by multiplying the top and bottom by the same power of 10, then simplify.

How to turn a mixed number into a decimal
2 3/4 = 2 + 3 ÷ 4 = 2.75
Keep the whole number, then turn the fraction part into a decimal. A fraction such as 3/4 ends at 0.75, while a fraction such as 1/3 repeats.

Convert mixed numbers and improper fractions
2 3/4 = 11/4
To make an improper fraction, use the denominator. Two wholes are eight fourths; add three fourths to get eleven fourths. Reverse the process with division and a remainder.

How to simplify 8/12
8/12 ÷ 4/4 = 2/3
Find a number that divides both the numerator and denominator. Dividing both by the same factor changes the name of the fraction, not the amount it represents.

Fractional inches and millimeters
5/8 in = 15.875 mm
Fractional inches can convert exactly to millimeters. Going from millimeters back to a common ruler fraction can require rounding, so the tool shows both the exact inch fraction and the nearest 1/16, 1/32, or 1/64 inch.
